Non-Normative Bodies, Vulnerable Bodies

Sexuality, Desire, and Consent Among Persons with Disabilities

Join me on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for a panel discussion at Campus Condorcet – Auditorium 150, University Paris 8 in Aubervilliers, organized by the association Sexe et Consentement.

I will be sharing my thoughts and personal experience on the highly taboo topic of sexuality among people with disabilities.

Other speakers on the panel:

Léa Good: Playwright. She wrote and directed the play Des Claques et des Étoiles, denouncing the violence experienced by women with disabilities, particularly autistic women. Previously, she worked as a group leader for specialized vacations for people with disabilities.

Dr. Jocelyne Vaysse: Member of FDFA (Women for Saying It, Women for Acting: women with disabilities but above all, citizens). This association is part of the Fondation des Femmes and authored the report revealing an alarming statistic: 75% of women with disabilities have experienced violence. Dr. Vaysse works as a support listener in the association and has also had a long medical career in institutions.

About the conference:
A two-day event (September 27 & 28) organized by the association Sexe et Consentement, under the patronage of the French Ministry of Higher Education.

The theme of the conference is to explore the notion of “the imaginaries of consent” — questioning the role of fiction in shaping cultural representations and its power to impact reality:

– The role of artists and cultural industries in reproducing or challenging representations of rape culture / and in creating representations of a culture of consent
– The role of universities in promoting a culture of consent
