WeThe15

A campaign that speaks to the 1.2 billion people with disabilities worldwide, of which I am one.

What did you take away from this beautiful global campaign seen during the #TOKYO2020 Summer Paralympic Games?

I personally loved the spot that delicately trampled on the heroic stereotypes surrounding people with disabilities by showcasing their surprisingly ordinary daily lives.

Initiated by the International Paralympic Committee and the International Disability Alliance, #WeThe15 is a true movement for equality and a powerful symbol of the fight against discrimination faced by 15% of the world’s population, according to UN estimates.

#WeThe15 aims to be the largest human rights movement and seeks to place disability at the heart of the inclusion agenda, just like racial, sexual, or gender diversity. This campaign will last a decade. Its goal is to represent the invisible people that we are and to put an end to the discrimination we face.

Everyone can contribut at their own level by:

  • Putting people with disabilities at the center of diversity and inclusion discussions
  • Becoming aware of the prejudices and changing behaviors toward PWDs (Persons with Disabilities)
  • Speaking directly and making eye contact with the person concerned, not their companion
  • Creating programs that foster better inclusion of people with disabilities in society
  • Talking to your children about disabilities
  • Ensuring the visibility and representation of people with disabilities
  • Breaking down systemic barriers that prevent individuals from thriving and being active members of our society.

The fight for inclusion is a major challenge we must win in order to tackle the others…

So, are you ready to get involved?

And if you are directly or indirectly affected by disability and would like to speak out on this subject, feel free to contact me.
